elcome to my newly designed blog-site. Some of you may be new to this, so I will briefly explain... this is a website that is also a blog and vice versa. My old site had not been updated in almost two years, and thus, my blog was truly the best representation of my work. So... the two shall become one! If you are new to me, feel free to click on the buttons above for sample galleries of some of my favorite work. Then, check out my most recent work by clicking through the most relevant category for what you are searching. For everyone else, enjoy the joined functionality... Happy viewing!

    Babies

    Benjamin - Newborn Portraits

    H
e's here!! Benjamin Reilly Smaldone was born June 5 after a long day+ for mommy and family. But, now he is here and making everyone smile! This shoot was a little unusual for me because I drove to Saratoga Springs to meet this family at the halfway point, and we both were traveling with babies (my parents were visiting and kept Claire busy during the shoot)... but since we were both with babes, the session started about an hour or so after our goal start time... those things just happen when you throw a newborn in the mix. But yeah, I don't normally travel for photo shoots, and I definitely don't normally bring my baby with me "to work." But, the Smaldones are a special family to me. You see, Allison and I "met" about three years ago when she booked me for their wedding... so, it started with engagement portraits, then the wedding (part 1 and part 2), then the trash the dress... a few years later, we did the maternity portraits, and now these! We are doing Baby's First Year with Benjamin, so get ready... these peops are about to become my most photographed clients! They already are some of my most loyal clients, and I love that. So, there was little hesitation for me to have the honor to capture lil Ben's first photo shoot. I just wish I could've gotten to him earlier when he was still all curled up. :-) Anyway... I know you will love this lil bundle. Happy viewing, friends!

A little wink to start. (note the hair on the back of his arms- just for you, allie!)

dads and babies... everyone say "awwwwwwh!"

This lil boy is mesmerized by his mom.

    it must be love.

I could just eat up those lips. How cute is this?!

Another one with daddy. What a little peanut.

Allison has the best eyelashes. I think I have a subconscious goal to always get a pic of them. :-)

looking up at mommy. love this!

    beautiful. even with googly eyes.

there goes those lips again. LOVE em!

we knew the photoshoot was over when I caught this picture below. I mean, I think every mother needs at least one pic of their baby crying... all gums. :-)

Congrats again you guys! Thanks for braving such a long drive with a newborn just to get pics from me. Can't wait for 6 months! He will be so grown up by then!

    Families

    The Battison Family

    T
he last "family reunion" portraits I did was about 3+ years ago. I have turned down countless shoots due to my experience at that one session. Now, don't get me wrong, I love families, and I love large families, but posing a bunch of adults is not really my thing, as you all know and see on my site. It isn't something I find joy in, especially when the shoot is indoors (which that last one was). BUT... when we got a call from the Battison family and found out there were three generations with 5 kids total, I knew that it would probably be a really fun shoot. Now, there were a lot of poses, but you won't really see those on here since I don't want the phone to start ringing for older families that only want formal, stiff, posed shots. Instead, you are going to see a glimpse of the moments and personalities I saw during the in-between. What a joy! I could photograph these kids all day long! Happy viewing, friends!

After just the first poses, I knew these kids needed to let loose a little... here's some silly faces. Chris, my hubby, says Mitch (the boy on the far left) wins for the silliest face!

Seriously, how cute are these boys!?

It was a little late in the morning for perfect light, but we managed alright. I love the carefree feeling of this one!

What a pretty girl. I love how the mist on the grass makes it just glow.

    Giggling with grandpa.

    Twins love each other!

    Son loves his papa.

The whole clan getting on the rock for a pose. I love this one.

Ok, but this is my absolute favorite of the day! The kids "caught" a salamander (no animals or children were harmed or captured). How fun is this?!

    Pure joy!

I love the personalities in this one. After a little pose. I told the kids to jump around and relax. I love how each kid seems to just be themselves here.

Thanks so much to the Battison family! I promise I did get some good ones of all the adults, too. :-)

    Weddings

    Heather & Norm's Wedding

    H
eather and Norm were married on a perfect Saturday on Lake Champlain at the Valcour Conference Center. As I was leaving Saranac Lake to head over there, it was pouring down rain, and I had a sinking feeling that this could be a not-so-dry and not-so-outdoor outdoor wedding. But, lo and behold, it was clear at Valcour, and it barely did more than sprinkle all afternoon! And, the crowd was elated with the day... and the couple could not have been happier. So... with that said (and not much more, sorry!)... Happy viewing, friends!

    Norm getting ready.

Heather all ready to go. LOVE this one!!! A LOT!

it was pretty windy at times during the ceremony. I love how the dresses flowed in the wind.

Similar to an engagement shot. Love this!

so... they had these paddles with their last names and the word wedding. I couldn't pass up a shot with one. haha!

    seriously cute!

i love this shot of Norm helping Heather around... you can see the ceremony site in the background. simply perfect.

This is not a typical shot I would put on my blog site, but I love the joy in this simple moment. (Heather opened the tray to find it empty- maybe they jumped the gun before the staff was ready?). ha!

Love this! I believe this is the father of the groom and Norm's uncle? Anyway... still love it.

    first dance... sweet.

another first dance. the background was so blasted out that I wanted to just clear it out to emphasize the sweet moment. i love it.

ring shot to close. Congrats you guys!

    Babies

    Claire Anna at Five Months

    W
here does the time go? My lil bundle turned 5 months old last week! She is sitting up, rolling over (though not a lot), saying things like "mom," "mama," and "nemo," laughing, smiling, and grabbing everything in sight! She is changing so fast that I just can't imagine not taking a million pictures of her to capture each of these milestones! In fact, yesterday (when I was taking these pics) was the first day she sat up for more than 30 seconds... and of course, this time, she made it 5 minutes or more... and now does not want to lay down ever. Anyhow... enough babbling about my baby. Happy viewing, friends!

I got a little tired of taking all of her pictures in our house or our yard... so we went down to Lake Colby (with the help of the nanny- no way I could've carried everything!). Here's Claire enjoying some tummy time. This image is my on my desktop. I just love her sweet smirk and beautiful eyes and lashes!

The view. so lovely. I think she is looking at the hospital where she was born!

So serious. I was so nervous she was going to topple over and knock her head. She made it 1 minute here.

I love this series! Claire discovering grass. I'm a lil surprised she didn't pull any up and try to put it in her mouth.

    LOVE this. My lil model.

    Eating her sunhat.

    grabbing some tall grass.

i know you are jealous of the drool! Her eyes are like glass! Look at the blue skies and clouds in them!

Reaching, reaching, reaching... at this point, she had been sitting up for minutes, not seconds! Wha-hoo!!

Okay, so Claire was not feeling a smile at Lake Colby. But, I had to get one for the grandparents, so after naptime, she was super happy. And, here is the drippy drooly smile!

Oh, and I had to show how Claire tries to suck on her toes now. hmmm...

I love how she loves my hands. I had to try to get a picture of it. not bad for shooting with one hand, eh?
